Carson Macedo released from hospital after scary accident at Knoxville

Jason Johnson Racing Sprint Car driver Carson Macedo has been released from the hospital. On Saturday, he was involved in a scary accident at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.

Macedo was driving around the track when he lost control of his vehicle. He then slammed into the wall violently.

After hitting the wall, the Sprint Car flipped several times before coming to a rest with smoke coming out of it. Seconds later, the car burst into flames.

Safety personnel then rushed to his aid and removed him from the car. Several other drivers rushed to his aid. NAPA Auto Parts driver Brad Sweet was very animated after getting out of his vehicle to the safety personnel. 

“Carson Macedo was transported to a local area hospital following an incident during tonight’s World of Outlaws event at the Knoxville Raceway,” Jason Johnson Racing said in a tweet at 12:05 am EST. “He did walk to the ambulance with assistance. We will keep you all updated when updates become available.”

Then, at 1:09 am EST, Jason Johnson Racing sent out another tweet. The team thanked Gio Scelzi, Spencer Bayston, Brad Sweet, and the Knoxville Raceway safety crew, along with the World of Outlaws officials. 

“Thank you for being real-life superhero(es),” the team said in the tweet. “From all of us at JJR.” 

On Sunday morning, the team announced very good news.

“Carson Macedo was released and did walk out of the Hospital early this morning,” Jason Johnson Racing said in an update on Twitter. “Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.”

Macedo also sent out a note thanking everyone.

“Thank you everyone for the thoughts and prayers, (it) means a lot to read all the nice messages,” Carson Macedo said on Twitter. “Thankful for all my amazing safety equipment. Time to strap back in and go fast again.” 

At this time, it is not clear if Macedo will have to miss time from racing.
