Charlotte FC midfielder and defender Anton Walkes has passed away. He was 25.
An official cause of death has not been determined yet. The soccer team said that he died tragically but no other information was provided at the time of publication.

“We are deeply saddened to share that Anton Walkes has tragically passed away this morning,” Charlotte FC said in a Facebook post. “May he rest in peace.”
Walkes competed for Charlotte FC during their 2022 season. As the team is preparing for their upcoming 2023 season, this tragedy struck them.
He played in Major League Soccer for the past three seasons. Before joining Charlotte FC, he spent two seasons with Atlanta United during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Walkes also was sent on loan to Atlanta United for 20 games during the 2017 season. Before coming to the United States, he played overseas with Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth.
As a 24-year-old, he appeared in 23 matches. He started 21 of those contests.
Walkes did not register a point in any of those matches. He played 1,806 minutes on the season.
