NEWARK, NJ — Sean Strickland has won the co-main event at UFC 302. He defeated Paulo Costa at the Prudential Canter in Newark, Now Jersey.
The judges ruled that it was a split decision win for Strickland.
The 33-year-old Strickland won his 29th fight in his career. He gets back on his winning track with his fourth win in his last five fights.
Now that Strickland won this fight, does he get another title shot? We’ll have to see what UFC President Dana White and his matchmakers want to do moving forward.
Following the fight, it seemed like Strickland wanted another title shot.
The only loss came when he lost his championship belt to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297. Strickland last the bout by a split decision.
He won all three of his fights in 2023.
Strickland improved to 29-6 in his MMA career. This was his 14th decision win.
While Strickland was the winner, Costa was the dominant fighter. He had 59.4% of the significant strikes in the fight.
The 33-year-old Brazilian has dropped four of his last five fights.
Three of Costa’s losses have come via a decision. His other loss came to Israel Adesanya when he was knocked out.
Costa also suffered a decision to Marvin Vettori. He also lost to Robert Whittaker earlier this year in January at UFC 298.
