Athletics win 3-2 over Rangers in final game in Oakland

The Oakland Athletics have won their final game in Oakland, California. The Athletics won 3-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Oakland Coliseum.

The team will conclude their 2024 season on the road. They have a three-game set with the Seattle Mariners.

For years, no one would show up to the Athletics games as so often, less than 5,000 fans showed up. But today in their final game, nearly 50,000 people showed up.

The Athletics are the first MLB team in two decades to relocate. The Montréal Expos were the last MLB team to relocate.

The Expos played the 2004 season in Canada. Then after they were not able to get a stadium, the team moved to Washington, D.C. to become the Washington Nationals.

The Athletics will play in Sacramento, California as their permanent home is being built. The team is expected to move to Las Vegas in several years.

The Rangers got on the board in the Top of the sixth inning. Adolis García singled to deep right center.

Josh Smith scored to make it 3-1.

Then, Nathaniel Lowe hit into a fielder’s choice. This allowed Wyatt Langford to score.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, J. J. Bleday singled to left center field. Jacob Wilson scored to make it 3-0.

The Athletics went up 2-0 in the third running. Shea Langeliers hit a sacrifice fly, which allowed Lawrence Butler to score.

Bleday hit into a fielder’s choice. This allowed the Athletics to go up 1-0.

Athletics rookie pitcher J.T. Ginn received the win. He pitched 5 1/3 innings before giving way to the bullpen.

Rangers rookie pitcher Kumar Rocker went 4 2/3 innings. He received the loss.

Athletics closer Mason Miller picked up the save. It was his 28th save of the season.
