Flames dominate Eagles in 2021 Lending Tree Bowl

The Liberty Flames dominated the Eastern Michigan Eagles in the 2021 Lending Tree Bowl. The Flames won 56-20 over the Eagles at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama.

“Super proud of my guys and super blessed to have finished the way we did 🙏🏾 ,” Malik Willis said in a tweet after the game. “Thank God for everything from the ability to the platform to glorify His name ☝🏾 GODS PLAN 🙏🏾 TGFE 💯”

This was the 23rd edition of the Bowl game. This was the first game at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

The previous 22 games were played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

This was Liberty’s first appearance in this Bowl game. With the win, they finished their season with an 8-5 record.

Eastern Michigan also was making its first appearance in this particular Bowl game. They finished their season with a 7-6 record.

Flames quarterback Malik Willis went 13 of 24 for 231 yards. He threw three touchdown passes.

T.J. Green had eight carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. Kevin Shaa had three receptions for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Eagles quarterback Ben Bryant went 23 of 36 for 200 yards. He also threw an interception.

Samson Evans had 13 carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. Hassan Beydoun had 11 receptions for 83 yards.

Liberty outscored Eastern Michigan 23-10 in the second half. Willis scored on a 35-yard rushing touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.

Willis hit Demario Douglas for a two-yard touchdown reception. Brayden Beck also made a 43-yard field goal.

Johnathan Bennett threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Shaa.

Eagles’ Jeff Hubbard scored on a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown. Chad Ryland also made a 43-yard field goal.

The Flames led 33-10 at halftime. Willis hit DJ Stubbs for a 54-yard touchdown reception. Skyler Thomas also returned an interception for a 27-yard pick-six.

T.J. Green scored on a 24-yard rushing touchdown. Willis hit Johnny Huntley for a 20-yard touchdown reception.

Willis also scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown.

EMU’s Evans scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown. Ryland also made a 27-yard field goal.
