Chester, Pa. — The Philadelphia Union concluded their Leagues Cup action on Saturday night. They defeated Liga MX powerhouse C.F. Monterrey 3-0 at Subaru Park.

With the win, the Union won the third place game. The 2022 Eastern Conference Champions clinched a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup tournament next year.

C.F. Monterrey had nothing to play for in this game. They had already clinched a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

They were the only Mexican team standing in the final four. The month-long World Cup-style tournament was hosted by MLS teams around the country.

Since C.F. Monterrey had nothing to play for, head coach Fernando Ortíz elected to give playing time to some Academy players.

On Tuesday night following the semifinal loss to Inter Miami CF, Union head coach Jim Curtin did not want this match up. He preferred to play Nashville SC.

However, in the second semifinal match, Nashville SC defeated C.F. Monterrey. Thus, it set up the third place game with the Union.

The Union jumped on C.F. Monterrey early. Jesús Bueno scored in the first minute from close range.

Then, Mikael Uhre scored in extra time right before halftime. Uhre scored to make it 2-0 when he scored at 45+2.

After halftime, Alejandro Bedoya scored a goal in his second consecutive Leagues Cup game. Bedoya scored in the 69th minute.
