Alex Laughlin revealed his new Street Outlaws No Prep Kings car on Friday. Then, he had a stellar weekend at the season-opening race at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania.

The Texas native — who used to drive a Top Fuel Dragster and a Funny Car — won the Loser’s Bracket. This is the first year that there will be a Winner’s Bracket and a Loser’s Bracket.

With the win, Laughlin took home $10,000 after defeating Scott Taylor in the final round.

No points were awarded for this race. Points will begin to be awarded during the fourth race at New England Dragway & Motorsports Park in Epping, New Hampshire.

“We won the $10,000 race at No Prep Kings,” Laughlin said in a Facebook post. “The comments on my social have been so supportive and for that, I’m so thankful. The commenters on other places with the hate, the naysay’n, thanks for the push. All the love for all of y’all, the good and bad. We got a W and outran some of the top dogs of No Preps.

“Thankful for our guys, the dedication everyone in this group is putting in, all the hard work and long days leading up to this, and certainly the folks that bought our merch out here this weekend. It sure helps keep us going. Heck of a start, y’all.”

Laughlin announced in December that he would step away from the Jim Dunn Funny Car. At the time, no one knew what his next move was. In recent weeks, he announced he was going to run a limited schedule.

However, on Friday, Laughlin announced that he was going to run the entire Street Outlaws No Prep Kings schedule. He is sponsored by Hot Wheels and the other sponsors from his other projects.

After his first weekend, Laughlin is 3-1. He was knocked out in the first round by Kayla Morton.

He then went into the Loser’s Bracket following the loss. Then, he defeated heavy hitters Justin Swanstrom and Jeff Lutz before taking out Taylor in the final round.
