“What. A. Day!,” Angelle Sampey said on her Facebook page. “Scored my FIRST TAD National Event win today at the #ReadingNats! I am so proud of my team, all of our hard work is finally paying off. Wouldn’t want my first TAD win with anyone else!”

This was a double-up for AB Motorsports, as Sampey is in an alliance with the team led by Top Fuel Dragster driver Antron Brown. Sampey is driving the Michalek Brothers’ Top Alcohol Dragster.

Brown said after his win in the media center that he would put Sampey in a Top Fuel Dragster tomorrow if a sponsor came to the table.

This was the third win for the Michalek Brothers.

Coughlin was driving the McPhillips Racing Top Alcohol Dragster. The McPhillips Racing is located nearby in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

According to Google Maps, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania is 45 minutes away from Maple Grove Raceway. The dragster driven by Coughlin is the one that Tony Stewart drove in 2023, including to two Wally wins at Maple Grove Raceway.

Stewart first won the Wally in the dragster at Maple Grove Divisional in August. The following month, Stewart then won the national event.

Sampey held a 1-0 advantage over Coughlin in the previous meeting. However, this was the first time that these two drivers had faced each other in the final round.

Coughlin had a small starting line advantage and held onto the lead through the Christmas tree. However, shortly thereafter, Sampey took over the lead and got the win.

The Sampey/Michalek race team had gone to the U.S. Nationals final round. However, due to an issue with the dragster that Brown caught, Hunter Green got the win.

This was Sampey’s first Top Alcohol Dragster win. According to dragracecentral.com, she is just the third woman to win in the class at Maple Grove.

Jackie Fricke won in 2016 and Jeannie Booz won in 2000. Sampey is also the 21st woman to win in Top Alcohol Dragster.

Sampey has previously won at Maple Grove Raceway during the national event six times, including her first win in 1998.
