The 65-year-old Francona sat out the 2024 season. He departed the Cleveland Guardians following the 2023 season.

As a manager, Francona is a two-time World Series manager. Both World Series championships came with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and 2007.

The Red Sox after overcoming a 3-1 deficit in the American League Championship Series to the New York Yankees to win in Game 7, Boston went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 to win the 2004 World Series. Several years later, Francona’s team swept the Colorado Rockies to win the 2007 World Series.

Francona is 1,950-1,672 in his career as a manager. He served as a manager with the Philadelphia Phillies, Red Sox, and the Cleveland Indians/Guardians.

The bulk of his career came with the Indiana/Guardians, where he spent 11 seasons.

The 2025 season will be the first time he has managed in the National League since the 2000 season with the Phillies. Francona guided the Phillies to a 65-97 record that season.

He spent four seasons as the Phillies manager, where he went 285-363.

Francona will be managing a young Reds team, who has not made the postseason since the 2020 season. Despite only playing 60 games that season due to COVID-19, the Reds advanced to the postseason before being swept 2-0 in the best of 3 series in the Wild Card round by the Atlanta Braves.

Elly De La Cruz led the team with 160 hits. He also led the team with 25 home runs.

Spencer Steer led the Reds with 92 RBIs.
