Cardinals defeat Huskies despite Giles Jackson’s 4 TDs

The Louisville Cardinals have escaped with a one-point win in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. The Cardinals won 35-34 over the Washington Huskies on New Year’s Eve at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.

With the win, the Cardinals improved to 9-4 overall. The Huskies fell to 6-7 overall.

This was the first meeting between these two teams.

Cardinals quarterback Harrison Bailey went 16 of 25 for 164 yards. He had three touchdown passes.

Isaac Brown had 18 carries for 99 yards. Chris Bell had six receptions for 60 yards.

Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Jr. went 26 of 32 for 374 yards. He had four touchdown passes.

Williams Jr. also had 20 carries for 48 yards and one touchdown. Giles Jackson had 11 receptions for 161 yards and four touchdowns.

The Cardinals outscored the Huskies 14-13 in the second half. Bailey hit Nate Kurisky for a 21-yard touchdown reception. Caullin Lacy also scored on an eight-yard rushing touchdown.

Williams Jr. hit Jackson for a one-yard touchdown reception with 13 seconds left.

However, instead of sending the game into overtime, first-year head coach Jedd Fisch decided to go for the win. However, the two-point conversion failed.

Williams Jr. also hit Jackson for a 31-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The game was tied at 21 at halftime. Bailey hit Antonio Meeks for a 28-yard touchdown reception.

Bailey hit Lacy for a nine-yard touchdown reception. Williams Jr. was intercepted by Tahveon Nicholson, who then returned it for a touchdown.

Williams Jr. hit Jackson for a 40-yard touchdown reception. Williams also hit Jackson for a 49-yard touchdown reception.

Williams Jr. also scored on a seven-yard rushing touchdown.
