Ballard scores 2 TDs as Mids beat Owls in season-opener

The Navy Midshipmen defeated the Temple Owls on Friday night. The Midshipmen won 30-19 over the Owls at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Midshipmen have won three straight games in the series. They have won the 2005, 2006, and now the 2007 games.

“Hopefully we’ll grow,” Midshipmen head coach Paul Johnson said after his 100th victory as a college coach. “Our football team right now is not close to where we were a year ago. We’ve got a lot of growing to do.”

The Owls have not won in the series since 2001. That’s when Temple won 45-26 over the Midshipmen on August 30th, 2001 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Dating back to the beginning of the series, the Midshipmen is now 4-4 against the Owls. Temple won their games in 1998, 1991, 2000, and 2001.

Midshipmen quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada went 3 of 7 for 78 yards.

“It’s a great place to play,” Kaheaku-Enhada said. “Philadelphia’s a great city and they’ve been good to us.”

Adam Ballard had 21 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Shun White had one reception for 37 yards.

Owls quarterback Adam DiMichele went 21 of 29 for 199 yards. He had two touchdown passes and two interceptions.

Jason Harper led the Owls with 8 carries for 14 yards. Kevin Armstrong had five receptions for 45 yards.

The Owls outscored the Midshipmen 9-6 in the second half. DiMichele hit Matt Balasavage for a 23-yard touchdown reception. The kick failed.

Jake Bromwell also made a 25-yard field goal.

Midshipmen’s Matt Harmon made two field goals. He first made a 30-yard field goal. He also made a 43-yard field goal.

The Midshipmen led 24-10 at halftime. Kaheaku-Enhada scored a 44-yard rushing touchdown. Ballard also scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Ballard also scored on a five-yard rushing touchdown. Harmon made a 23-yard field goal.

DiMichele hit Daryl Robinson for an 18-yard touchdown reception. Brownell also made a 41-yard field goal.
