The San Diego Chargers have re-signed running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The sides agreed to a three-year contract extension.
Financial terms of the contract were not known at press time.
He has spent the last eight seasons with the Chargers. He was the 5th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft.

The team went 8-8 under head coach Norv Turner. They lost in the Divisional Round in a 35-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
During the 2008 season, despite dealing with a sprained big toe early in the season, Tomlinson had 292 carries for 1,110 yards. He also had 11 rushing touchdowns.
Tomlinson had 52 receptions for 426 yards and one touchdown.
He was nearly the Chargers’ entire running yard tally. Darren Sproles had 330 rushing yards. However, the five other backs did not account for more than 100 yards.
Of this bunch, Jacob Hester was the only true running back with 95 yards. Philip Rivers, the starting quarterback, had 84 yards. Fullback Mike Tolbert had 37 yards.

Wide receiver Vincent Jackson had 69 and fellow receiver Chris Chambers had one rushing yard.

In his career thus far, Tomlinson has appeared in 127 games. He started all 127 games.
Tomlinson has had 2,657 carries through the end of the 2008 season for 11,760 yards. He has scored 126 touchdowns.

He has also had 510 receptions for 3,801 yards and 15 additional touchdowns.
