Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper used to be like everybody else. Now, he is in the national spotlight.
That would change on Wednesday when his name and face would be thrust in front of the national news. On that day, a video came out with Cooper using a racial slur towards an African-American security guard at a Kenny Chesney concert in June.
On Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon, Cooper said he was sorry and offered to seek help in why he used the word. And on Friday, he would leave the Eagles to seek help from professionals.

But now there’s news that suggests that Cooper may have known about the tape before he faced the music on Wednesday night with reporters and cameras in his face. The Eagles released a statement on Sunday night saying that Cooper received messages on Twitter before the video reached the national news and that his life may be in danger.
It is not clear when Cooper received these messages.
“Riley Cooper made us aware of the tweets when the video became public,” the Eagles said in a statement. “He told us that he did not know about the video. He informed us he blocked the tweets because he did not know the person nor understand the context of what that person was threatening.
“We promptly alerted NFL Security. This information potentially speaks to a legal issue that is a matter between Riley and the authorities. Our focus has been on Riley’s words and actions.”
Cooper, who was entering his fourth season with the Eagles before the video came to light, has just 46 receptions for 679 yards and five touchdowns in his career.
That was before being asked to replace Jeremy Maclin when he went down with a torn ACL on July 27th.

The tweets that are in question have been deleted, so it is hard to say what was said to Cooper. While he is away from the team, the Eagles are also concerned that the individuals that made these threatening messages to Cooper may want money from him in an extorting attempt.
But that also is not clear until more information comes out from either Cooper or the Eagles. Unless the Eagles or Cooper talk about these messages in question, we may never know what happened with the messages on Twitter.
He is currently away from the team undergoing sensitivity training.
