The Los Angeles Lakers could have a new head coach in the next day or two. The Lakers are expected to bring back a familiar face to the role.
The Lakers are in serious talks for Byron Scott to be their next head coach. The team has been without a head coach since they fired former head coach Mike D’Antoni.
The team’s superstar Kobe Bryant reportedly wanted Scott to be the team’s new head coach. He is expected to get his wish in the near future.

The aging star is recovering from an injury. Yet, he believes that Scott will be able to turn the team around next season.
Scott has always wanted this position. Will he live up to the expectations? We’re not sure.
This position comes with high expectations. As Scott knows, the Lakers are expected to be in the mix for the championships year in and year out. Under D’Antoni, he guided the team to a 67-87 record in two seasons.
In one postseason appearance, D’Antoni and the Lakers were swept.
D’Antoni came in during the 2012-13 season when the Lakers were 5-5. Mike Brown and Bernie Bickerstaff started the season.
Brown guided the Lakers to a 1-4 record. Then Bickerstaff went 4-1 before D’Antoni took over.
D’Antoni guided the team to a 40-32 record to finish out the season. They were then swept 4-0 by the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference First Round.
Things fell apart in his second season. D’Antoni guided the team to a 27-55 record.

Scott was available for this position after being fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 2013. He also was a head coach for the New Orleans Hornets and the New Jersey Nets.
He is taking a veteran-laden roster that includes Bryant, Carlos Boozer, and Steve Nash. Bryant will be in his 18th season, while Nash will be in his 19th season.
Typically, when players are on the downside of their careers, they are limited in play. This could be a disaster for the Lakers if Bryant and Nash are forced to miss significant time due to their age or injuries.
The Lakers are hoping that Scott can guide a third team to the NBA Finals in his coaching career. As the Nets’ head coach, he guided his teams to the 2002 and 2003 NBA Finals.
Unfortunately for the Nets, the team lost both times. They were first swept by the Lakers in 2002.
Then, they were defeated by the Spurs.
