EWING, NJ — On Thursday night, David Beamer was the star of the Sunshine Football Classic. He was named the Game’s MVP because of his performance.
Beamer, a quarterback from Princeton High School, helped his West team to a 31-6 win over the East team at Lions Stadium on the campus of The College of New Jersey. The 31-points are the most by the West team since it was changed to an East-West format in 2015.
“It’s a great honor,” he said of his MVP honors, which he also received a plaque. “I never really thought it was a possibility, but it’s great.”

Beamer went 14 of 16 for 175 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also had two rushing touchdowns on three attempts, including 10-yards.
“It was great,” Beamer said. “All week in practice, we all seemed to have a connection and everyone was on the same page. Coach (Rob) Radice came up with a good game plan. We came in here pretty sharp.”
Besides Beamer being named the game’s top honor, his teammate Malik Thompson received the West Back of the Game. The East’s Back of the Game went to Elijah McNeil, who will be attending TCNJ in the Fall.
McNeil also had the lone East touchdown. However, after the 11-play, 80-yard drive, the extra point was blocked.
The West team used up nearly all of the first quarter time on their opening drive. The 17-play, 70-yard drive ended with Will Kitson connecting on a 29-yard field goal for the early 3-0 lead.
“I’ve been known to do that,” head coach Rob Radice said. “When we did that, my coaches and I thought it was going to be a low-scoring contest before Beamer opened things up.”

All the money raised from the game will go to the Sunshine Foundation. The funds help make wishes come true for seriously ill children, physically challenged, and abused children, which according to the program, their top request is Disney World in Florida.
“It’s an honor to be a part of this game,” Radice said. “We know that there is an importance to this game, and we’re doing our job by playing this game to raise funds to help others less fortunate to put smiles on their faces.”
