Ball State basketball player Zach Hollywood has passed away

Zach Hollywood, a 19-year-old forward, who was a student-athlete for the Ball State men’s basketball team, has died. He reportedly died on Tuesday afternoon.

An official cause of death has not been determined yet.

“On behalf of Ball State University, it is with profound sadness that we learned today of the passing of Zachary ‘Zach’ Hollywood, a student from Bradley, Illinois,” the school statement said. “Zach has been a part of our community for the past year. During his time on campus, he was a member of the men’s basketball team and made many positive impressions throughout campus.

“This is a tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and teammates.”

It’s not exactly known what caused his death. However, according to Scott Hahn, the Delaware County Coroner, who spoke with The Star Press, Hollywood was found just after 1 pm at the Varsity House Apartments. He was reportedly dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected.

Head coach James Whitford is expected to release a statement. However, he has not done so as of yet.

Hollywood was a red-shirt player for the team this past season. He participated in the team’s practices during his red-shirt season.
