Darius Griffin Jr., 25, the first-year Bishop Ahr Trojans boy’s basketball head coach, was involved in a head-on collision at 4:25 am in Piscataway, New Jersey. He was driving his Nissan Altima, according to NJ.com, on River Road when he crashed into a Ford Ranger.
One person was killed and two were injured in the accident. Steve Kemmlein, 59, was killed at the scene.
“The Township mourns his loss,” Wayne Mayor Chris Vergano said in an email to NorthJersey.com. “He was a mentor to many new volunteer firemen and a friend to all. Our condolences are extended to his family and his fellow firefighters.”

Griffin, along with his passenger, were then transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick for their wounds. Griffin is listed as critical condition.
His passenger, which was not named, is listed as stable condition. The authorities did not say whether or not alcohol may have been suspected as a leading factor in the crash.
The incident is under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. The police are requesting, if you are a witness to the crash, to contact the authorities.

Griffin Jr. may be forced to miss the season as he recovers from this accident if he does survive his injuries. Griffin Jr. is the son of Piscataway men’s basketball coach Darius Griffin.
