Free agent outfielder J.D. Martinez has a huge asking price just before he’s eligible to become a free agent. The Scott Boras client is seeking a seven-year, $210-million deal, according to reports.
Teams, who were already considering him, knew that he wanted over $200 million in a new contract. He’s expected to be one of the top free agents once the 15-day period after the World Series ends.
Martinez began this season with the Detroit Tigers. Then, around the trade deadline, he was dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

With both teams, he had a .303 batting average with a 1.066 on-base percentage in 119 games. He had 45 home runs and 104 RBI’s between the Tigers and the Diamondbacks.
He’s one of several of Boras clients, who are expected to cash in this winter. The other includes first baseman Eric Hosmer, pitcher Jake Arrieta, and third baseman Mike Moustakas.
From 2011 through 2017 with the Houston Astros, Tigers, and Diamondbacks, Martinez had a .285 batting average in 772 games. He has hit 152 home runs and 476 RBIS in 2,828 at-bats.

He has also had 168 doubles and 13 triples on 805 hits. Martinez has also had a .342 on-base percentage and a .515 slugging percentage.
