There has now been a second college football coach, who has been fired on Sunday. First, the Arkansas Razorbacks have fired head coach Bret Bielema.
Now, the UCLA Bruins have fired head coach Jim Mora Jr. He’ll be replaced on an interim basis by offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch.
Mora Jr.’s last game as the Bruins head coach was a 28-23 loss to the No. 11 USC Trojans on Saturday night. The Bruins are 5-6 this season and will have to win their final game of the season to become bowl eligible.

“Making a coaching change is never easy, but it’s an especially difficult decision when you know that a coach has given his all to our University,” UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero said. “Jim helped re-establish our football program, and was instrumental in so many ways in moving the program forward. While his first four seasons at UCLA were very successful, the past two seasons have not met expectations. We thank Jim and his family for his service to our school and his unquestionable commitment to our student-athletes.”
The Bruins host the California Bears this Friday at 10:30 pm in what could potentially be their final game of the season.
Mora Jr. has been the Bruins head coach for the past six seasons. He was 46-30 as their head coach, but did not have a winning record in the past two seasons.
In his first four seasons as the Bruins head coach, he took the team to four consecutive bowl games. He went 2-2 in those games.

This will be the first time the well-traveled New Jersey will be an interim head coach in his 20-year coaching career. This is his first season with the Bruins after spending the past two seasons under Jim Harbaugh’s staff with the Michigan Wolverines.
The 41-year-old will have an audition, as depending on how he does against the Bears, it could possibly lead to a college football head coaching job.
