According to our sources, Jim Butner Auto Group Pro Stock driver Bo Butner will be leaving the Pro Stock category after the season. Butner is expected to release an official statement on Saturday with his decision.
However, our sources have confirmed he will indeed leave the category following Pomona in November. He is the second confirmed driver to announce they are leaving the category.

Tanner Gray — who could potentially win the Pro Stock Championship — has already announced he is leaving for NASCAR in their K&N Pro Series. Butner is the reigning Pro Stock champion.

In the past several weeks, his name has been mentioned as a candidate to leave the category and go back to sportsman racing. Well, it has been confirmed that he is indeed leaving the pros in the next few weeks.
However, the NHRA has been messing with the category over the past several years that has really made drivers angry. Even on Friday, there was a report that suggests that the NHRA would propose for the Pro Stock drivers to race at 16-races next season without impacting their purses.
This is an attempt to get better field counts. The sanctioning body then could potentially bring in the Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars — who did an exhibition at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals during Labor Day weekend — for the remaining races.
Butner has been eliminated in the first round ten times over the last 22 races. He has also lost back-to-back races in the first-round of eliminations.
He lost to Gray Motorsports Pro Stock driver Drew Skillman in the first-round in Ennis, Texas. Skillman went 6.618 to beat Butner’s 6.637.

Butner also lost in the first-round at Charlotte 2 to his Team Summit teammate Jason Line. The Summit Racing Equipment driver won with a 6.503, while the Jim Butner Auto Group driver went 6.526.
The Floyds Knobs, Indiana native has a 21-21 round win-loss record this season. Butner — who is driving a “Butner to the Future” wrap on his car for the Halloween event has only one win on the season.
That win, though, came in the season-opener at Pomona 1 against Line. Butner went 6.549 to beat Line’s 6.568. He also has six career wins in the category.
