The Dixie State Trailblazers have found their next head coach, according to FootballScoop. The says sources have informed them that Paul Peterson will be offered the job.
He is also expected to accept the position. He was last the Snow College (Junior College) head coach after being hired in December 2017.
The 38-year-old Allentown, Pennslyvania native was the Snow College Badgers head coach the past two seasons. Prior to that, he was the Sacramento State Hornets offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2012 through 2017.
He also spent two seasons as the Southern Utah Thunderbirds Passing Game Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, Wide Receivers Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator in 2010 and 2011. He also was the Thunderbirds Quarterbacks Coach, Wide Receivers Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator in 2008 and 2009.
He was a graduate assistant with the North Carolina State Wolfpack in 2007. He also was a graduate assistant with the BYU Cougars in 2006.
Peterson replaces Shay McClure, who did not have his contract renewed after the season. McClure guided the team to a 7-4 record in 2018.
The seven wins were the most wins in program history.
The team began the season with a loss to then-No. 14 Colorado State-Pueblo Thunderwolves, 56-14, on September 1st.
The Trailblazers then won four straight games. They defeated the Fort Lewis Skyhawks, the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys, the South Dakota Mines & Technology Hardrockers, and the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets.
Dixie State saw their win streak come to an end against then-No. 2 Grand Valley State Lakers. They won 35-14 at Lubbers Stadium in Allendale, Michigan.
The Trailblazers improved to 5-2 with a win over the Western Colorado Mountaineers. They won 17-10 at Trailblazer Stadium in St. George, Utah.
The team then fell to 5-4 with a two-game losing streak. They were defeated by the Chadron State Eagles and the Colorado Mesa Mavericks.
Dixie State ended the season on a two-game win streak. They defeated then-No. 6 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers, 52-45, on November 3rd. The team then defeated the Adams State Grizzlies, 52-10, on November 10th.
