The Appalachian State Mountaineers has hired Eli Drinkwitz as its new head football coach. He replaces Scott Satterfield, who became the Louisville Cardinals head coach following the season.
Drinkwitz has signed a five-year deal to be the Mountaineers head coach. Despite being approved by Chancellor Sheri Everts and the Appalachian State University Board of Trustees, his hire is still subject to approval by the North Carolina Board of Governors.
“I’m excited to welcome Eliah and his family to App Nation,” Appalachian State Director of Athletics Doug Gillin said. “The App State football program is in great position to continue its championship ways. Eliah is committed to excellence academically, competitively, socially, and to the well-being of our student-athletes.

“There was significant interest in our process throughout a national search. Eliah has great character and a clear vision for the future of Mountaineer football. I’m excited about the future of our football program.”
The 35-year-old spent the last three seasons working as the North Carolina State Wolfpack’s Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach. Prior to accepting the Wolfpack’s Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks role, he was the Boise State Broncos Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach in 2015.
He also was their Tight Ends Coach in 2014.
He worked as the Arkansas State Red Wolves Co-Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs Coach in 2013. He also was the Red Wolves Running Backs Coach in 2012.
During the 2010 and 2011 seasons, he was the Auburn Tigers Quality Control Assistant. He also served as the Springdale High School Bulldogs Offensive Coordinator in Arkansas from 2006 through 2009.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach with Alma High School Airedales in 2005 in Arkansas.
