The Arizona Diamondbacks have designed right-handed pitcher Greg Holland for assignment. He is expected to pass through waivers.
Holland signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Diamondbacks in January. Teams have 10 days to claim Holland and be responsible for the remainder of his contract.
If he clears waivers, the Diamondbacks would be responsible for the rest of his contract. Once he is officially a free agent, he has to be signed by August 31st to be eligible for postseason play.

Holland would receive a prorated deal from his new team for the rest of the season if he isn’t claimed during the waiver process.
He was replaced by Archie Bradley in the closer’s role. Manager Torey Lovullo has saw Bradley concert two save opportunities since the end of July.
Holland had struggled with the teams since late June. He had an 11.17 ERA in his previous 13 appearances before being designated for assignment.
The 33-year-old Marion, North Carolina native would be joining his sixth MLB team. Besides pitching for the Diamondbacks, he also pitched for the Kansas City Royals, Washington Nationals, Colorado Rockies, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
This season, he has a 1-2 record with a 4.54 record in 40 games, including 27 games finished and 17 saves. He allowed 18 runs (18 earned runs), including five home runs, on 25 hits over 35.2 innings.
