Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had successful surgery on Monday. He suffered a dislocated hip on Saturday against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
He was injured when two Bulldogs defensive players landed on him during a play late in the second quarter. Besides the dislocated hip, he also suffered a posterior wall fracture.
“Tua underwent successful surgery on his right hip Monday morning in Houston,” Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic Doctor and Alabama Team Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Lyle Cain said. “The procedure went as planned, and he is resting comfortably. Tua’s prognosis is excellent, and we expect him to make a full recovery. He will return to Tuscaloosa [Alabama] in the next several days to begin his rehab.”

Tagovailoa has already been ruled out for the rest of the 2019 season. In addition, his Heisman Trophy hopes have also ended due to this injury.
According to ESPN’s Laura Rutledge, this injury — which was considered to be the same that ended Bo Jackson’s career — is different than his. She said that Jackson did not know he was injured, then kept playing on it.
She is reporting that since the Crimson Tide medical professionals acted quickly, he is expected to make a full recovery. Tagovailoa will have to make a decision in the off-season.
He has until the middle of January to announce if he is declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft. If he does, he was expected to be considered for the top pick in the draft.
However, with this injury, it is not clear if it’ll be a Top 10 pick now.

Tagovailoa went 14 of 18 for 256 yards before the injury. He also threw two touchdowns against the Bulldogs.
He went 180 of 252 for 2,840 yards. He also had 33 touchdown passes and three interceptions before the injury.
