Arizona Cardinals great Larry Fitzgerald has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. He will not play in Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

Fitzgerald will be in isolation for at least 14 days unless this is a false positive. If it is a false positive, then it’ll have to prove it with negative tests 24 hours apart.

Fitzgerald is looking at missing games against the Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams if this is a legitimate positive test. He would be eligible to return against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ on December 13th.

This will be a devastating loss for Kyler Murray. Fitzgerald has played in 80% of the Cardinals’ offensive snaps this season.

In addition, he has had the second-most targets on the field behind DeAndre Hopkins, who leads the lead in receiving yards with 912. With the future Hall of Famer missing the game due to the infectious virus, Murray will now look for Christian Kirk and Andy Isabella.

The belief is that Isabella would receive Fitzgerald’s starting job – at least until the legend returns off of the reserve/COVID-19 list. 87% of Fitzgerald’s offensive snaps have come from the slot.

Isabella – when used on a limited basis – has had 86% of his offensive snaps from the slot. In addition, he has been targeted 21 of his 24 targets from the slot.

The 37-year-old Minneapolis, Minnesota-born player has had 43 receptions for 336 receiving yards. He tied a season-high 8 receptions in his last game on Thursday Night Football in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington.

In both games against the Seahawks, he has had eight receptions. His high against another team – not named Seattle – is seven receptions against the Washington Football Team in a win.

Fitzgerald has not had more than 62 receiving yards in a game. Both of his 62-yardage games came against the Seahawks.
