The Edinburg (Texas) Police Department has filed charges against Edinburg football player Emmanuel Duron. He’s been charged with assault.

The 18-year-old Duron was charged on Friday morning with a Class A assault charge. He is currently in jail until he’s able to be bonded out.

He had an arraignment in Edinburg Municipal Court. He currently has a $10,000 cash bond.

On Thursday night, Duron made national headlines for a bonehead play. During a high school football game between Edinburg High School Bobcats and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School Bears, Duron was ejected for an unsportsmanlike penalty.

Moments later after referee Fred Gracia announced the unsportsmanlike penalty, Duron rushed onto the field. He attacked the official in an unprovoked incident.

Duron knocked Gracia off of his feet and onto the ground. According to reporter Andrew McCulloch, Gracia suffered a potential concussion and a shoulder injury.

The game went on without Gracia. The referees finished the game short-handed.

Duron; however, was escorted out of Robert Flores Stadium on Thursday night. It’s not clear when Duron was exactly arrested.

Edinburg school officials announced on Friday that they forfeited the game last night. As a result, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will move on to the playoffs.

With the forfeit, Edinburg’s season has come to an end.
