Aston Villa has made a coaching change. The team made the announcement that Dean Smith has been let go amidst a five-game losing streak.
His final game with the team was a 1-0 loss on Friday to Southampton. The loss gave Aston Villa just 10 points through the first 11 games of the season.

“This year, we have not seen the continuous improvement in results, performance, and league position, which we have all been looking for,” Aston Villa chief executive Christian Purslow said in a statement. “For this reason, we have decided to make a change now to allow time for a new head coach to make an impact.”
He had been leading the team since October 2018. As the team’s leader, he guided the team to a 55-28-56 record in 139 matches.
“The board would like to sincerely thank Dean for his many excellent achievements, on and off the pitch, during this time,” Purslow added. “Everyone knows how much Aston Villa means to Dean and his family. He has represented the club with distinction and dignity – universally liked and respected by everybody associated with Aston Villa – our staff, players and supporters alike. We wish him the very best.”
