He was making a grudge pass when the accident happened. He is OK.

“Well I’ll get this out of the way now,” Big Booty Judy Racing said in a Facebook post. “Made a grudge pass with Shawn Wilhoit and didn’t go so great. We made a pass and at the end, the chutes didn’t deploy correct (the cable seemed to [break] inside [the] car and didn’t let it fully pull) at the same time the brake pedal broke off inside the car so ultimately no brakes, no chutes, 150mph wasn’t a good ending. All I could do was hold on for the ride. I went through the sand traps and into a field and went through 2 fences, I tried to avoid the trees but there was a hill at the end that I ramped into another field. So looks like we have some stuff to fix.

“Congrats to Lil Legend “Bobby Ducote” on moving on to the race tomorrow. Wish I could have given you a run instead of this way. I’m ok, just shook up. We will fix it.”

Melton had moved from the Futures Class to Race Your Way In earlier on Friday. He will have time to fix his car.

Street Outlaws No Prep Kings will be off for July. This will give Melton time to recover for the second part of the season in August.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my friends and family that help me keep this car and rig going and making it to these races,” Melton said in another post on Friday. “We have faced what we thought [was an] impossible year-ending challenges and have been blessed enough to come out on top. We’re proud to be part of #TheSouth and going to shoot [our] shot tonight and swing for the fence.

“Thank you to everyone and the fans that support us. We’re going to try to make you proud.”
