A suspect has been arrested after a shooting at Lancaster Motor Speedway in Lancaster, South Carolina on Saturday. The Lancaster County’s Sheriffs Office announced the arrest of the individual on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Rodney Cunningham, of Heath Springs, S.C. The authorities found Cunningham with multiple gunshot wounds.

He later succumbed to his injuries. The incident happened at approx. 10:53 pm during the final race of the night.

“Lots of folks were at the track last night, and a good number of people likely saw some or all of the events leading up to and including the shooting,” said Sheriff Barry Faile. “We have identified some of them but encourage others who we have not talked with to call the sheriff’s office and tell us what you know. We hope to positively identify the shooter and take him into custody soon.”
The police did not release much information on the suspect or a motive at this time. More information will be coming out in the weeks and months ahead.

“I know everyone knows what happened at the race tonight, all I ask is that everyone keep that person’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” the track said in a Facebook post.
The track’s next event is slated for September 3rd.
