4 Piñeiro Jr. FGs helps Panthers beat Falcons in downpour

The Carolina Panthers have been a mess this season. But when the team plays against their conference foes, it brings out the best in them.

The Panthers defeated the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football. Carolina won the game in a downpour at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The rain came from Hurricane Nicole which was battering the south before moving up the coast.

With the win, the Panthers have improved to 3-7 on the season. Carolina has won 3 of the 4 games thus far against the NFC South teams.

They also snapped a two-game losing streak with the win. Two of the team’s three wins have come under interim head coach Steve Wilks.

Their only Divisional loss thus far was on October 30th against the Falcons. Atlanta won the contest 37-34 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Falcons fell to 4-6 with the loss. Atlanta has dropped their last two games after defeating the Panthers at the end of October.

Panthers quarterback P.J. Walker went 10 of 16 for 108 yards.

D’Onta Foreman had 31 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown. Foreman had the best game of his season in terms of rushing.

He previously had 118 rushing yards twice in a season. He had 118 rushing yards in Week 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Foreman also had 118 rushing yards in Week 8 against the Falcons.

Terrace Marshall Jr. had one reception for 43 yards.

Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota went 19 of 30 for 186 passing yards. He had two touchdown passes and an interception.

Mariota had three carries for 43 yards. Damiere Byrd had three receptions for 58 yards.

The Panthers led 13-0 before the Falcons scored.

Each team scored 12 points in the second half. Panthers kicker Eddy Piñeiro Jr. made two field goals.

Piñeiro Jr. first made a 40-yard field goal. He also made a 37-yard field goal near the end of the game.

Foreman also scored in the second half. He scored on a 12-yard rushing touchdown.

The Falcons had their 12 points on two touchdowns. Mariota hit rookie Drake London for a seven-yard touchdown reception.

Mariota also hit KhaDarel Hodge for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

Carolina led 13-3 at halftime. Laviska Shenault Jr. scored on a 41-rushing touchdown. Piñeiro Jr. also made two field goals.

He made a 46-yard field goal. The former Florida Gators kicker also made a 49-yard field goal.

Falcons kicker Younghoo Koo made a 33-yard field goal.
