UVA football player Lavel Davis has passed away

According to On3, Virginia wide receiver Lavel Davis is among the victims of a mass shooting on the University of Virginia campus Sunday night. The alleged gunman is a former Cavaliers football player.

He was one of the three deaths in the shooting. Two other victims were injured. Their conditions are not known at this time.

Davis passed away in the shooting, according to his cousin Sean Lampkin. He posted the news on social media.

“Saddening, saddening news this morning,” Lampkin said in a tweet. “God took one of his most kind, humble, loving soldiers off of the battlefield last night.

“Please pray for my family as we are devastated by the passing of my cousin Lavel Davis Jr. Love and already miss you, kid @LDJxIII”

Davis was a junior on the football team. He had 16 receptions for 371 yards on the season. He also scored two touchdowns.

He last played in a game on October 29th against the Miami (Florida) Hurricanes. He had one reception for 47 yards in the game.

Davis played two seasons with the Cavaliers. In those seasons, he had 36 receptions for 886 yards and seven touchdowns.

The alleged gunman Chris Jones, who was listed on the 2018 football roster, is still at large.
