Eks running back Christian Saulsberry killed in Memphis shooting

Edmonton Eks running back Christian Saulsberry was shot and killed in Memphis, Tennessee. He had just turned 25 on Monday.

No other information has been provided.

“Early Saturday morning, the Edmonton Esks were devastated to learn of the death of running back Christian Saulsberry after he was shot in Memphis, Tennessee,” the team said in a statement. “First and foremost, our hearts go out to his family during this incredibly difficult time. Our condolences are also extended to his friends, including the many teammates and coaches, both here in Edmonton and elsewhere that he impacted throughout his football career.

“Christian’s contributions to our football team, both on the field and in our locker room were significant during his one season with the Green and Gold. His positivity and energy for life will be dearly missed.”

He played in eight games with the team.

“Our hearts hurts,” Eks head coach Chris Jones said. “Christian was one of the nicest young men I’ve ever been around. He brought so much love & energy to our organization. We can’t replace that big smile!! Our prayers are with your family. We will miss you water-bug!”
