Gaige Herrera picks up eighth No. 1 qualifier in nine races at The Big Go

Vance & Hines Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Gaige Herrera is the No. 1 qualifier. The rookie phenom picked up the top spot at the Dodge Power Brokers U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in Brownsburg, Indiana.

Herrera, who has dominated this season as a rookie, picked up his eighth No. 1 qualifier of the season. He has done that in the first nine races of the season.

He went 6.746 at 198.96 mph on Friday.

“Running the .74 off the trailer, that was a big accomplishment for the whole team,” Herrera said. “They worked pretty hard the last couple of weeks from Sonoma to here. All weekend, I’ve had a very consistent motorcycle and today Andrew (Hines, crew chief) decided to play with tires a little bit. We were in full test mode today, and we’re definitely ready for Monday.

“It would almost top the Western Swing to win Indy. That was a very big accomplishment for me and the whole team, but if I’m able to clinch here at Indy, this is the big race everyone talks about. It would definitely be amazing to win here.”

He will face Cory Reed in the first round of eliminations. This is Reed’s first race back after two years away due to injuries sustained in a crash at zMAX Dragway.

Herrera’s teammate Eddie Krawiec is the No. 2 qualifier. He went 6.800 at 199.29 mph.

Krawiec will face Bud Yoder II in eliminations on Monday.

GETTRX rider Hector Arana Jr. is the No. 3 qualifier. He went 6.828 at 199.11 mph.

Arana Jr. will face Chris Bostick on Monday in eliminations.

Matt Smith Racing rider Matt Smith is the No. 4 qualifier. He went 6.874 at 198.15 mph.

He will face John Hall in the first round of eliminations.

Trick Tools sponsored Chase Van Sant is the No. 5 qualifier. He went 6.878 at 197.08 mph.

Van Sant will face Ryan Oehler in the eliminations.

The other pairings include Steve Johnson and Kelly Clontz. Angie Smith will face Marc Ingwersen.

The final pairing will be Jianna Evaristo and Ron Tornow.
