“The Brooklyn Nets have relieved Jacque Vaughn of his head coaching duties,” the Nets posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “An interim head coach will be named in the near future.”

On February 21st, 2023, Vaughn signed a contract extension with the Nets. He was named the team’s interim head coach on November 1st, 2022, following the departure of Steve Nash.

The Nets are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference. The team has a 21-33 record.

“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but one we feel is in the best interest of the team going forward,” Nets General Manager Sean Marks said. “Jacque has represented this organization with exemplary character and class for the past eight years. The consistent positivity and passion he poured into our team daily will remain with the players and staff he interacted with throughout his tenure.

“We thank Jacque for all he has done for the Nets and the borough of Brooklyn, and wish him, Laura and their family nothing but the best in the future.”

In parts of three seasons, Vaughn guided the Nets to a 71-68 record.

If the Nets stay in house, the most logical choice would be Kevin Ollie. He was previously the Connecticut Huskies head coach and the G League’s Overtime Elite head coach.

Marks will have to decide what the next move would be. He will have to evaluate his best options moving forward.

Whoever the Nets decide to lead their team moving forward, if an interim head coach is hired before Wednesday, they will likely make their coaching debut on Thursday on the road. Thats when the Nets begin a road trip in Canada against the Toronto Raptors.

Following a road trip in Canada, the team would visit Minnesota, Memphis, and Orlando. Their next home game will come on Thursday, February 29th against the Atlanta Hawks.

Whoever it is, the new coach will attempt to turn around the Nets fortunes this season. Since January 1st, the team has struggled, including a 50-point loss to the Boston Celtics.
