TRENTON, NJ — Josh Conover thought he had won the East Coast Indoor Dirt Nationals A-Main on Friday night in the 600cc Wingless Sprint feature. Then, a short time later, it was taken away from him.
Conover was announced as the winner at the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey. He resides nearby in West Trenton in a town called Ewing.
Then, after going through tech, he lost his win.

“(We) had a harder tire on,” Conover said in a Facebook post. “Rules are specific for RD-20. We made the oops. Come back (Saturday).”
As a result, Frenchtown, New Jersey native Billy Pauch Jr. was credited with the win. It was the first time he had won an event in this Dirt Nationals series.
He previously had the best average finish in the previous four events. Pauch Jr. finished second in last year’s race as Tim Buckwalter won in Trenton.
With the win, Pauch Jr. received a $1,000 check. He will attempt to “double up” on Saturday as he is already in for the A-Main.
If Pauch Jr. can win on Saturday, he’ll take home an additional $5,000.
Conover and Pauch Jr. had been going back and forth late in the 25-lap feature. Pauch Jr. was leading late in the race with two laps to go before Conover made a late pass in the final lap.

This gave Conover the win briefly before the disqualification was found in the post-race inspection.
The Top 5 racers are in the show on Saturday. These include Pauch Jr., Alex Bright, Briggs Danner, Brian Carber, and Zach Bealer.
They do not have to go through the alphabet soup to make it to the A-Main.
Following the disqualification, Bright finished second and Danner finished third. Conover finished last.
