The Los Angeles Chargers have traded star wide receiver Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears. In exchange, the Chargers received a 2024 fourth round draft pick.

The Bears are taking a flyer on Allen, who will be paid $23.1 million in 2023. However, his 2024 salary is not guaranteed, according to Spotrac.

In addition, the Bears will owe Allen a $5 million roster bonus in the next five days. This is due on March 17th.

Allen was asked to take a pay cut by the Chargers on Thursday. He declined. As a result, he was dealt.

The Chargers, who were in a cap-strapped situation, gets more help, as they save $23.1 million. Unfortunately, for them, they lost two offensive weapons to get cap relief as the team previously released receiver Mike Williams.

He has yet to sign with a new team. With Allen leaving, the Chargers may attempt to sign Williams at a lower price.

Their defensive stars Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack both agreed to restructuring their contracts. This helped the Chargers with cap relief, as well.

Their offense also lost running back Austin Ekeler in free agency. He signed with the Washington Commanders.

Allen had been with the team since 2013. He was their third round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
