The No. 9 seed Michigan State Spartans defeated the No. 8 seed Mississippi State Bulldogs on Thursday. The Spartans won 69-51 over the Bulldogs at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
With the win, the Spartans advance in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. This is the sixth straight year that they have won a Round of 64 game.
The Spartans (20-14) will have to wait to find out their next opponent. They will face the winner of the No. 16 Wagner Seahawks vs. the No. 1 seed North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Bulldogs (21-14) had their season come to an end with the loss.
Tyson Walker led the Spartans with 19 points. He also had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.
Walker was one of three Spartans, who scored in double figures. Jaden Akins had 15 and Malik Hall had 10.
They had 17 bench points. Xavier Booker and Tre Holloman had five bench points each.
Josh Hubbard was the lone Bulldogs player in double digits. He had 15 points.
Hubbard also had three rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
He had half the points total than the rest of the four Bulldogs starters. The other four players had 29 points combined.
The team also had seven bench points. Shakeel Moore had five points off the bench.
