In the round, before the submission, Figueiredo had Garbrandt on the ground. It looked like the Brazilian was going to finish him with another submission move before putting him in the rear-naked choke.

The 36-year-old former UFC champion improved to 23-3-1 in his career. He has now won two straight bouts.

This is Figueiredo’s ninth submission win in his career. This was his first submission win since he defeated Alex Perez with a guillotine choke submission at UFC 255 on November 21st, 2020.

Garbrandt fell to 14-6 in his career. This was his first submission loss in his career.

Coming into the fight, Garbrandt had a two-fight win streak. Now, he had dropped three of his last five bouts.
