The Kansas City Royals’ big fourth inning was enough to hold on to the win. The Royals won 4-2 over the New York Yankees on Monday night in the American League Divisional Series at Yankees Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

With the win, the Royals tied the series at 1-1. Now, it is a best-of-3 series as the teams will resume the series on Wednesday night.

The Yankees cut the game within two runs in the ninth inning. However, Royals closer Lucas Erceg closed the door.

Erceg picked up the save. But before he collected the save, he gave up a home run to Jazz Chisholm Jr. that went to right center field. It reportedly went 393 feet.

The Royals scored their entire four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Maikel Garcia singled to right field. This allowed Garrett Hampson to score to make it 4-1.

Hampson singled to left center in his at-bat. This scored Tommy Pham to make it 3-1.

Pham also singled to deep right center. 40-year-old Yuli Gurriel scored on the play.

Early on in the inning that sparked the Royals offense, Salvador Pérez, who is their lone holdover from the 2015 World Series Championship-winning team, hit a home run to deep left center. The 414-foot home run tied the game at 1 apiece.

In the bottom of the third inning, Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton singled to left center. This allowed Gleyber Torres to score.
