Bill Belichick has passed on the NFL. He has been named the North Carolina Tar Heels head football coach.

This is his first college football job. He has reportedly agreed to a 3-year, $30 million agreement, according to The Athletic.

The 72-year-old passes up an opportunity to be an NFL head coach. Last offseason, he interviewed at least twice for the Atlanta Falcons job before the position went to Raheem Morris.

He passed up an opportunity to be the NFL’s all-time leader in wins. He is less than 30 wins away from breaking Don Shula’s record.

Belichick takes over a job that was led by Mack Brown, who was fired at the end of the season. The Tar Heels have been talking to Belichick for the last week.

He is now the oldest coach in college football.

Several college football head coaches have left for the NFL or assistant coaching jobs within college football due to NIL and the transfer portal. Yet, the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach transitions to the college game.

Belichick had total control of the New England Patriots organization. Now, he is going to lead the Tar Heels but with an uncertainties about the college landscape.
