Vick was last involved in coaching during the 2019 season with the Atlanta Legends in the Alliance of American Football League. In April 2018, he was named the Legends offensive coordinator.

However, before their 2019 season started, then-head coach Kevin Coyle said that Vick would not be the offensive coordinator. Instead, he remained with the team as a consultant.

“I didn’t think I ever wanted to coach but talking about the game at Fox, I get excited like I’m out there playing again. But, it’s still not touching individuals,” Vick said. “When the opportunity came about, I felt like I could really make a difference and give back to the game. …Once I found out it was in Atlanta, I thought it was a home run.”

Vick replaces Dawson Odums, who was let go at the end of the season. Odums went 15-30 in four seasons leading the Spartans.

He is taking over a program that has not had a winning season since 2021 when the team went 6-5. Before that, the Spartans had not had a winning record since the 2007 season when they went 8-3.

The school has not announced the terms of the agreement at press time.

The 44-year-old played 13 seasons in the NFL. Vick played six seasons for the Atlanta Falcons. He also spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles

Then, he spent one season each with the New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
