“The car was amazing all weekend. We qualified fourth, but we got qualifying points every single round and ran 3.80s every round of eliminations until the final when the flawless part fell off a couple of hundred feet out and (the) car shook the tires and knocked them loose,” Beckman said. “That’s where, as a driver, you’ve got to be ready to give one back to the team because they’d given me everything all weekend long.

“It felt good to be able to pedal the thing and take it down there and have the car not blow up. It’s pretty cool when they hand you a trophy, your car still intact, and get John Force Racing its 300th Funny car win.”

According to Dragracecentral.com, Beckman held a 4-0 record against Wilkerson in the previous rounds. However, this was the first time that these two drivers faced each other in the final round.

Beckman had a starting line advantage, as he went 0.073. Wilkerson went 0.081 off the line.

Around the 200-foot mark, Beckman had to pedal the car before he got the car corrected for the win. This is Beckman’s 36th career Funny Car win.

Wilkerson smoked the tires at the hit. After having the early issue, he just shut it off and coasted to the finish line.

Beckman said after the race that nine drivers collected 143 Funny Car wins for John Force Racing. Living legend John Force has 157 wins.

“Before the final, the whole Cornwell Tools team was over helping us,” he said. “That’s what kind of organization JFR is. This was all about John Force. This is Funny Car win No. 300 for team John Force Racing. Nine of us got 143 wins, the boss man got 157. That’s 300. This is a big deal. This is a milestone in drag racing.”
