The Boston Red Sox may not have star third man Alex Bregman on Saturday. He may be sidelined much longer than just one game.

Bregman was removed from the first game of the scheduled doubleheader. However, he will get additional rest as the second game of the doubleheader was postponed to Saturday due to rain in the Boston area.

Manager Alex Cora told reporters that this injury could potentially land Bregman on the injured list. Cora said that the team will wait to see how he responds on Saturday.

Then, after speaking with the key free agent signee, the team would make a decision.

The 31-year-old is in his first season with the Red Sox. He is signed through the 2027 season; however, his contract does have an opt-out clause.

Bregman was actually drafted by the Red Sox in 2012; however, he refused to sign with the team at the time.

In the first game of the doubleheader before rain postponed the second game, Bregman went 1 of 2. He was replaced by Abraham Toro in their 19-5 win at Fenway Park.

Coming into Friday’s game, Bregman had a .297 batting average with 11 home runs in 50 games. He also had 35 RBIs on 58 hits in 195 at-bats.
