Chip Ganassi Racing driver Álex Palou has dominated the 2025 IndyCar season. Now, he finally checked off a missing box on his resume.

The three-time IndyCar champion won the 2025 Indianapolis 500 on Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. He is the first Spaniard to win this historic race. He won the race in front of at least 350,000 people.

“Best milk I’ve ever tasted,” Palou said on the Victory Podium after a hearty swig from the traditional winner’s bottle of milk. “It tastes so good. What an amazing feeling.”

In addition, it is the first time that Palou has won a race on an Oval. He has 15 wins on the street or road courses.

“I cannot believe it,” Palou said. “It’s amazing to win. There were some moments that I felt really good in the race, but at the end, I didn’t know if I was going to (be) able to pass Marcus or not, but I made it happen. First oval win. What a better place?”

Palou has won five of the six IndyCar races this season.

“It’s certainly my new favorite race, my new favorite win,” Chip Ganassi Racing owner Chip Ganassi said. This is a big, big thing. The Indianapolis 500 is a big damn race. He will always be known now as an Indianapolis 500 winner Alex Palou. It’s that simple.

“Like he said last week, if he was to go through his whole career and not win here at Indianapolis, it wouldn’t be a complete career. I don’t want to say his career is complete now; he’s got a lot in him yet. He’s just an incredible driver. What can you say? Look at the last five, six races we’ve had. It’s just incredible. He’s on a roll.”

Marcus Ericsson finished second in the marquee race. This was the second time in the last three years that he finished second.

He won the Indianapolis 500 in 2022. Then, in 2023, he finished second to Josef Newgarden, who won his first of back-to-back Indianapolis 500 wins.

“We had those lappers ahead of us that were making it difficult,” Ericsson said. “He got a run on me. I didn’t know if he was going to go for it or not. That’s the thing that I’m thinking about constantly now – I should have covered that inside, of course.”

David Malukas finished third. This was his best finish in the Indianapolis 500.

“I’m not going to lie: I was crying coming into the pits (after the race),” Malukas said. “Man, we were just so close to getting it. Lappers came in, and he (Palou) was able to get a run. We were leading, so he had a good tow, and he timed that perfectly. It’s bittersweet because we didn’t get it.”
