In his final eight seasons, he had just two wins. Both of the wins came during the 2018 season.
His final win of his career came in the 2018 FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, June 10th, 2018, in Brooklyn, Michigan.
He won five events driving a Chevrolet during his time with Richard Childress Racing. His three wins with Michael Waltrip Racing came with a Toyota.

His final two wins with Stewart-Haas Racing came with a Ford.
He left his NASCAR career to focus on his broadcasting career. He was announced as a broadcaster with NASCAR on FOX in his post-retirement job.
