It has been exactly a week since the news broke about The College of New Jersey’s football program. Long-time head coach Eric Hamilton was suspended, the reports said, for two games for an incident that happened after the Homecoming game on October 20, 2012.

While the suspension was officially handed out in November, it took months for the news to get out to NJ.com, where the news was broken by their staff. And there has not been a replacement named for those two games yet.

It will likely come closer to the season before the practice starts in August. The Lions are presently without an offensive and defensive coordinator.

Former offensive coordinator Bobby Acosta left the program in January. He was offered and accepted the Widener football head coaching position after spending five years at the Ewing campus.

Besides his offensive coordinator duties, he was also responsible for the wide receivers and tight ends. Former defensive coordinator Matthew Hamilton, the son of Eric Hamilton, was not re-hired after the father and son got into an altercation with Kean security officials on October 20th.

Reports said the altercation was a verbal exchange between the parties.

“We were notified by Kean’s athletic director of a verbal confrontation between TCNJ staff members and Kean police officers at the conclusion of a game between the two schools last fall,” said Matt Golden, who is the TCNJ Associate Vice President for Communication and College Relations. “TCNJ reviewed that incident and took appropriate steps in response. We do not publicly discuss personnel issues and, therefore, cannot share any further details regarding this matter.”

The younger Hamilton was on his father’s staff for seven years in Ewing. And he was the defensive coordinator for the past four years.

Hamilton has been suspended for the September 6th road game against Ursinus. This game will be played in Collegeville, PA.

He will also miss the Lions’ home game against Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham on September 13th. The Lions last lost to FDU-Florham in 2010, when they lost 24-23 in overtime.
