The Ottawa Senators wanted to acquire a goal scorer at the trade deadline. They were able to get Ales Hemsky from the Edmonton Oilers.
The Oilers will receive a 2014 5th-round pick and a 2015 3rd-round pick.
Hemsky is being paid $5.5 million this season. And the Oilers are picking up 50% of the remaining contract before he hits free agency this summer.

When the Senators faced the Oilers last night, Hemsky scored two goals. The Oilers won the game 3-2 at Rexall Place.
“It’s sad if it comes to an end, but it is what it is. It’s business,” Hemsky said after last night’s game. “We’ll see what happens. I wish it had been a different situation, that we were battling for the playoffs and that they would want to sign me. It’s a different situation than that.”

He had 3 goals and an assist in 5 games at the Olympics.
With the Oilers, he had 142 goals and 335 assists for 477 points in 652 games.
Before Hemsky was acquired, the Senators were 27-24-11. The team is currently on a one-game losing streak after losing to the Oilers last night.
The Senators return to the ice tonight against the Calgary Flames. It is not clear at press time if Hemsky will make his debut tonight.
Or if he will make his debut on the road against the Winnipeg Jets on March 8th.
