DJ Cox also picked up his second Atco Wally in three-years at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Regional at Atco Dragway. Cox won the inaugural event in 2014, while Gill won last year’s event.
Like Top Alcohol Dragster, where No. 1 and No. 2 qualifiers faced each other, it was the same in Top Alcohol Funny Car. Cox went 5.78 at 254.18 for the hole shot win in the final round, while Gill went 5.73 at 258.37.
This was a big win for Cox as he clinched the Northeast Division Top Alcohol Funny Car Championship. He ended the regional season with 370 points and outlasted Permatex driver Phil Burkhart Jr., who had 278 points.
Burkhart Jr. is in his first-year driving the Permatex Funny Car as he replaced Todd Veney earlier this off-season.
