It’s hard for video game companies to change the pictures for the games after they’re already out in stores. But, 2K will have to make a decision on what they’re going to do after Tuesday’s blockbuster deal.
Kyrie Irving was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Boston Celtics. In exchange for the 25-year-old, Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Žižić and the Brooklyn Nets 2018 first-round pick went to Cleveland.
But Irving, at least on the cover of the video game, is still a member of the Cavaliers. It’ll be interesting to see with about a month left, what do 2K do?

Do they waste the money to have all the covers re-printed? The company has not said what they’re going to do, as the real-life trade has caused a dilemma for the video game company.
2K may just let it go and let Irving stay as a member of the Cavaliers on the cover despite the trade and put something in place moving forward so something like this doesn’t happen again. The virtual game is expected to drop in less than a month.
The reported date for the game’s release is expected to be September 19. However, if you pre-ordered the game, it’s reportedly coming to those on September 15.
2K will have some time to change the players before the release date. However, it appears, at least through their Twitter account, that the players have already changed teams in the video game, as well.

Irving will only be on the “Standard” edition. However, the “Legend” edition will have cover athlete Shaquille O’Neal in a Miami Heat jersey.
In addition, the “Legend Gold” edition will feature O’Neal dunking in a Los Angeles Lakers jersey.
