There is now a third player, who has passed for 70,000 yards in their NFL career. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees joined the historic group on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.
While Brees is the third player to reach 70,000 passing yards, he is the fastest player to accomplish this feat. Brees needed just 248 career games to reach 70,000 passing yards.
Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning needed 258 games to surpass 70,000 passing yards. Hall of Famer Brett Favre needed 293 games to surpass 70,000 passing yards — and was the first to accomplish this feat.

Brees is now inching closer to the all-time passing record, which Manning presently holds. The Saints signal-caller, the only active passer with 70,000 passing yards, has 70,200 following the Saints’ win over the Falcons on Sunday.
He needs 1,740 passing yards to surpass Manning’s all-time record. He will shave some of the passing yards off of the record during Sunday’s game, then he will likely break the record at some point next season.

Brees has had 12 seasons averaging more than 4,000 passing yards per season. He had a career-high 5,476 passing yards during the 2011 season.
This season, through 16 games, Brees has 4,089 passing yards. This would be his fewest passing yards since having 4,388 passing yards in 2009 — the year the Saints won the Super Bowl.
Where will Brees land on the all-time passing yardage list? We are not sure as he is still playing at a high level. Retirement does not appear to be in sight yet.
